Any ideas what this guy folded on the river
« on: August 29, 2011, 09:34:31 PM »
After a terrible weekend at the tables, tournament poker not been going so well (so near yet so far, springs to mind). So a change was in order, I went back to the cash tables to see if I could do any better. Hitting a couple
of $1/2 tables and anything down to 10/20 cent tables, this was the first time on dollar tables and it didn't go too badly but there simply weren't enough people playing full ring to find the tables I wanted so ended up playing
the bottom end of the scale to find some profitable tables. All in all it didn't go too badly after an hour and a half finishing up about $24. Quite happy with that result as it has been a while since I've been on the cash tables.

A hand occur ed just before I called time on the session which has left me confused but grateful they folded but for the life of me have absolutely no idea what they folded on the river. It happened on a 0.1/0.2 table, 9 seat,
7 active players dealt in the hand, I am on the SB with AT clubs, action folds round to the button who raises to 0.7. The Button is seemly playing a standard tight aggressive game but I know their raising range is a lot wider
as they are the first to enter the pot. So I 3-bet to $2.40, BB folds and after a bit of thought the Button calls.

The flop comes down Js Th 9d, the board is a very scary one I only have middle pair and a possible straight is on the board but since I 3-bet my opponent pre-flop I continue my aggression , maybe they missed completely or
fear the straight and will yield their hand. I bet $3.75 in to a $5 pot, my opponent thinks for a while then calls.

Jd is the turn card, since my opponent has been taking longer to call each street, I feel can make my opponent fold. So I fire a second barrel betting $6.25 into a $12.50, the board is now even scarier with possible trips out
there as well. My opponent really gives this some thought and before the timer runs down makes the call. This guy is either slow playing or really thinking whether to continue in this hand in my opinion. From my perspective
is the only way I can win this hand is by making the other player fold.

The pot is now $25 and the river delivers 9s, I have no where else to got but continue to represent a very strong hand. The board is showing possible straights and now a full house and the increasing amount of time my
opponent is taking to call at each stage of the hand gives me the glimmer of hope they still could fold. I shove my last $13.52 in to a $25 pot, my opponent's timer nearly runs down completely and they fold.

I'm pretty sure I broke a lot of cardinal rules of cash table poker i.e. pot control, but I got the pot in the end. The mystery is that I can't work out what my opponent folded as they were down to their last $7.60 and the pot
was $37.27. Did they fold the bottom end of the straight or the top end, missed straight and flush draw, same hand as me, pocket pair or just a pair of tens. If anyone has any ideas what they might have folded please post.

See you at the tables

yh AQ works, just wondering if they were diamonds as well which might explain the call on the turn and fold the river with air

I think maybe Q 10 d , this would give him the s8t draw and the pair of 10s, it would also explain why he called the turn.
( but what do i know, my game is crap at the moment)

lol nightporter it can't be going that bad surely.

QT diamonds is plausable, certainly agree with you that probably holds diamonds to justify a call on the turn.

not sure whether it likely QT but as I said before certainly plausable.
